Meet Deriale Lee, Professional Hair Doctor and owner of Salon HD in Jacksonville, FL. Known for the precision of her “bob” style cuts, this woman is a woman of influence.
Taking time out of her busy schedule, we got to interview her to learn more about how she works her magic. Read on to be inspired.
How long have you been styling hair for?
I began styling hair in high school at the age of 15, I received my license in 2008, and I became a business owner at the age of 27 in the year 2012 owning my first salon: “Salon HD.”
What do you love about styling hair?
I love EVERYTHING hair. From natural hair to extensions…but I have to admit extensions are my favorite. I can cut, curl, and color extensions.
How did you come up with the name “Hair Doctor”?
My cosmetology teacher always told me that even though “cosmetology students” didn’t actually get a “PHD,” we had one. We are “Professional Hair Doctors.” After I entered my first hair show in 2009 and won 2nd place, everybody called me the HAIR DOCTOR – I fix hair.
How did you start teaching classes about hairstyling?
My first class was on September 15, 2014. I have been asked by so many people how do I cut “THE BOB” to perfection. So I said to myself why not teach people my technique and get paid at the same time? There will be several upcoming classes teaching my personal techniques from beginning to end. I want to get people excited about their hair careers all over again in addition to teaching my weaving techniques.

What Fall/Winter hair trends do you predict will be popular?
The bob is the most popular style all year long. From the asymmetrical bob to the short bob, down to the blunt bob. Me & my clients love “THE BOB” especially when we spice it up with vibrant colors.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
10 years from now, I hope to have my own hair school. And of course, continue to work with different hair companies all over the world. I am so thankful to be a hairstylist. One of the coolest careers you can have.
