How To: Maintain Your Natural Leave Out

Today, we’re talking about how to maintain your natural hair leave out, and sharing some quick tips & tricks on how to protect it from damaging elements, such as exposure to the sun, heat, and others.

For a more seamless and undetectable weave, many women will leave out a portion of their hair to blend and cover their weave. The portion of hair that is left out is called: “Leave Out.” Because the leave out hair is constantly exposed to damaging elements, while the rest of her hair is braided down and protected, it is absolutely essential to take extra care of that portion of hair.

How to maintain natural leave out

1. Pre-Poo
Before shampooing, “pre-poo” (short for “pre-shampoo”) using a natural oil. We recommend using extra virgin coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil. Apply a generous amount of the oil on the leave out, and leave it in for at least 20 minutes. Then, proceed to shampooing the hair.

2. Deep Conditioner
After shampooing, saturate the leave out with a deep conditioning treatment. Leave it in for at least 30 minutes to allow it to fully penetrate into the hair cuticles. Then, rinse thoroughly.

3. Heat Protectant
After letting your hair air dry completely, spray or apply a heat protectant product on the leave out before using a heat tool. Because the leave out portion of the hair is constantly exposed to heat, this is a must-do to maintain the health of your leave out.
