How To: Prep Your Hair for Crochet Braids

how to prep for crochet braids

Caring for your natural hair and scalp should come first before any type of hair installation, especially with crochet braids. Starting off with that healthy foundation will ensure a longer-lasting protective style that will encourage your own natural hair to grow and retain its length by protecting it from damage and breakage. Today, we’re going to share with you how to prep your hair for crochet braids.

Crochet Braids

Tip #1: Trim

  • Trim away any split ends to prevent further damage and breakage, while the hair is braided down.

Tip #2: Wash

  • Thoroughly wash your natural hair and scalp before crochet braiding. We recommend using a gentle sulfate-free shampoo & conditioner, as well as a natural apple cider vinegar rinse to clean your scalp.

Tip #3: Condition

  • Before cornrowing your hair down to set your base for your crochet braids, your natural hair will need as much hydration as possible. We recommend using a deep conditioning treatment, after wash, for that extra moisture.

However long you keep your crochet braids in for, be sure to keep checking on the condition of your natural hair and scalp.  Moisture and cleanse as needed every week or two to ensure the health of your hair.
